Weather Station

I have always had an interest in the weather, and even took an introductory course in meteorology in college.  I never really pursued this interest until 2007, when I set up my first personal weather station, a LaCrosse WS2310.  I have since upgraded twice.  The first upgrade was to a home brew 1-Wire weather station.  I ran that station for 6 or 7 years.  When my 1-Wire hub died, I looked into commercial weather stations, as support for 1-Wire was waning. I ended up with a Davis Vantage Vue, which is what I am running today.

Knowing the current weather conditions at my home was great, but after some research I learned that I could share my weather data with the National Weather Service as well as with other weather modelling and forecasting services.  I looked at some commercial software packages that would permit me to maintain weather statistics and upload my weather data to some of those services.  While those packages were comprehensive, I wanted to combine my hobby of software development and my personal weather station.  This led me to develop my own weather station software and weather web site.  This in turn led me to building my own weather station, which I have documented pretty well at my weather blog listed below.  I also went through several small and single board computers as my software doesn't require a lot of processing speed or memory to function.
